[Planning practice guidebook] Planning for bird habitat protection: BC guidelines for local governments, developers and planners
Abstract
Created as a key part of my major project for my Master of Community Planning at Vancouver Island University, Planning for Bird Habitat Protection: BC Guidelines for Local Governments, Developers and Planners sets out key recommendations for maintaining the sustainability and quality of bird habitats within local government jurisdictions in British Columbia. Focusing on divisions of distinct habitat types frequently encountered in local government planning and development practice affecting the private, public and non-profit sectors, Planning for Bird Habitat Protection lays out the must know guidelines for improving the quality of habitat within local government jurisdictions for a full range of native birdlife. The Planning Practice Guidebook is based on consultation with planning, conservation and land development practitioners along with avian conservation research and field study carried out by the author. Canadian and international sources highlighting the value of simple avian conservation guidelines in planning practice helped to inform this work.
