Abstract
Education has historically been Eurocentric and the need to incorporate other perspectives, such as Indigenous ways of knowing into the curriculum, is imperative for our Indigenous youth to succeed and feel a sense of belonging. This self-study examines how I, an Inclusive Support Teacher, thoughtfully incorporated First Peoples Principles of Learning into my daily practice and teaching philosophy and where these principles aligned with a trauma informed practice. Following a mixed methods approach, I collected qualitative data in the form of weekly reflective journal entries, then I collected quantitative data from a daily self-assessment tool. When analyzing the data, I realized that I was able to successfully integrate the First Peoples Principles of Learning into my daily practice which allowed me to see more meaningful connections with students and carefully examine how to improve my teaching practices.
